I was so excited when I figured out how to mount a tv or heavy object on a thin wall with no visible big hunk of wood!
(Tutorial Here)
Then, I added a dishwasher to my camper
(Tutorial Here), and - now I can't turn the tv as far as I used to!
I figured there must be some way to redesign the mount, and after some trial and error, and much more elaborate ways of accomplishing this, I came up with a very simple, sturdy and easy to make way to make a movable tv mount that can swing around corners! Read on to see how I did it!
See how it swings around the corner now? And yet, it still stores back behind the wall.
The trick is a simple sliding bracket
I made my first 'real' video, although since I was holding the camera and trying to move things at the same time, let's just say it's not a professional effect LOL However, I think you can see how the slide works!
When it is stored, or if we watch while we're in bed -
the bracket is slid to the back like this:
When we want to sit on the couch and watch tv,
we slide it forward and the tv can swing around the corner like this:
Simply fold it up and slide it back and it fits neatly behind the wall.
The tv swing arm bracket is mounted to a sturdy piece of plywood. My tv is only 24" and it's mounted over a bed, so I used 1/2" plywood. If you have a larger tv, I would recommend a much thicker piece of plywood.
I used nuts/bolts to mount the tv bracket to the plywood. Make sure whatever you use is countersunk on the back so that it doesn't scrape the wall as you slide the tv back and forth.
I made two wooden brackets that hold the plywood and mounted them securely to the wall. Don't mount them too tightly to the plywood. It needs to be able to slide. My wall has a piece of trim at the edge that keeps the plywood from sliding completely out when you pull it. If there was nothing there, I would suggest putting a small block or stop to make sure someone doesn't pull the tv right off the wall :)
I have a bungee cord that holds the tv securely while we travel.
Make a cover with pockets to hold your remotes & wires!
